I have become an avid reader with as much traveling as I am doing. I always have at least 2 or 3 in my carry-on so I can choose which one I want to read on a flight segment or at night in my hotel room. My goal is to read 3o personal development books this year. These are the ones I have read so far. I have included my little two sense or synopsis of the book and a link for you purchase them as well. I highly recommend getting your nerd on and picking up a few of these. :)
I was asked to read this book in my senior year of college in my leadership development class. I have since reread this book on my own. This is a great book if you are looking to understand some of the basic fundamentals of business and leadership. It talks about several different companies and how they went from good to absolutely great companies and the leaders that lead them to greatness. Classic and a great first read when just diving into the world of leadership development books.
How awesome is it that my company gave this book to all of its employees for Christmas last year? Then we all were asked to all read it before we attended a training on it so that we could all grow and develop as a company and individuals. There are four basic principles that the book talks about and teaches. They are simple but some of the most challenging topics. The one I have the most trouble with is not taking things personally. It is so great that my entire company has read this book because on several occasions my coworkers have witnessed an interaction with either a student or another coworker and watched my face shift right after. Its great to have people in your life that will call you out and remind you not to take things personally or any of the other four agreements. This would be a great book to read with an accountability partner so that you too can have someone that keeps you on track.
My boss gave me this book when I was going through a hard time and I am really glad she did. This book can be applied to many different types of losses and hurts in your life. It teaches you that you are not a victim and although you have had hurt in your life you need to let it go and get out there and start living the life that you do have. This is one of those books you can go back and reread the stories and realize that what ever you are going through really isn't that bad.
This book is really cool because it comes from the female perspective. I don't know about you but as a female in the working world it is really nice to read stories of other women who are straight crushing it. The best part about this collection of stories is that it isn't just women talking about how amazing they are. They are truly opening up and taking about the mistakes that they have made in the work environment and how they learned from it. A lot a times when we make mistakes at work we think that we are the only ones and we get so down on ourselves. But we are not the only ones and this book is an awesome reminder of that.
This is the first personal development book I read this year. It is a great starter book because it is small and you can get through it quick. It gives you little and big things you can start to do now to improve your future. This is a must read for me at least once a year. It will be for you also.
The Secret is no secret. This book is amazing! So simple but I can honestly say this book changed my life. I can't explain it and neither can anyone who has ever read it but I can't recommend it enough. You will just have to try it for yourself and see the impact it has in your life. Share your stories with me about how this book helped you become a more positive amazing version of yourself. You won't regret it I promise!
This is a very quirky little book. It is a fast read written by a very funny author. It takes about the misconceptions we have as post college graduate 20 something individuals. Although this book was really funny it was almost sad how true it was. I am a 20 something post grad who thought I had it all figured out. This book along with a lot of other things shows how I have a lot more to learn.
This book is my favorite by far. The second that I finished it I immediately wanted to re-read it. In short: You are a Bad Ass is so great because it puts everything in language that you can understand but not only that it gives you very small manageable tasks for you to do to improve your life for the better. It is funny and witty and an all around favorite. I am going to have to buy another copy because I highlighted and wrote all over my original! Buy this amazing book now on the link above!
